How’s Your Pet?

Privacy

Draft: to be reviewed before launch so it matches exactly what the site collects.

What we keep

Who can see it

Only you, and anyone you add to your household. Site administrators can see that your account exists (name, email, when you joined) but not your pets’ records. A vet sees a summary only when you show it, print it, email it or send a share link, and share links expire and can be cancelled.

Sharing

We don’t share your information or your pets’ records with anyone, except when you choose to (by showing, printing, emailing or sending a share link to your vet), or when the law requires it.

We may, in the future, use or share information that has been made anonymous: combined with other members’ information and stripped of anything that could identify you or your pet (no names, photos, notes, contacts, exact dates, or location finer than a province). For example, figures like the usual weight of a breed.

If you live in Quebec, your information and your pets’ information are never included in anonymous information we share, because of Quebec’s privacy law. Choose Quebec as your province on your account page so we know.

Emails

We email you about your account itself: confirming your address, password resets, and important notices such as changes to these pages. If you said yes (when you signed up, or on your account page), we also send occasional news about new features, updates and outages, and once in a while we may ask whether you’d like to support the site with a tip. We don’t send ads. You can stop these emails any time from your account page or from a link in the email.

No trackers

No trackers, no analytics scripts, and no fonts or code from other companies. The site is free to use.

There are no ads at the moment. If we add some later to help pay for the site, they’ll only appear on public pages (like the home page), never on your pets’ pages, the vet summary or share links, and this page will explain them before they start.

Tips through PayPal

If you choose to send a tip, it goes through PayPal’s own website. We never see your card or bank details. PayPal tells us the amount and the name and email address on the payment, which we keep only for our accounts. PayPal’s own privacy policy applies to what you give them.

Your choices

From your account page you can download a backup of everything (a spreadsheet file you can upload again later), or delete your account and all of it at once. Deletion is immediate. Our own nightly backups are kept for 14 days and then replaced.

If How’s Your Pet? changes hands

If How’s Your Pet? (the business, the website or its domain name) is ever sold, merged or transferred, the information we hold would go to the new owner, who would have to protect it as this page describes. We’d tell you by email beforehand, so you could download your data or delete your account first.
